The matte black fiberglass faces down. The foil backing, located between the pad and the hood, aids in reflecting infra-red heat from the hood and also reinforces the pad. No other hood pad manufacturer is adding this fiberglass mesh reinforced foil backing.

This is our own, reverse engineered, created in CAD and die cut. This piece has perfectly cut edges. The shape is perfectly symmetrical. Made from automotive spec dark gray fiberglass insulation with BLACK fiberglass scrim / matt facing insulation pad insulates heat transfer to the hood and well as reducing sound/noise. 
Also our hood pads come rolled in a box not folded. Folded hood pads are wrinkled and tear at the folds during storage and shipping.

NOTE: This is NOT a molded hood pad like the original. It is a nice, inexpensive functional equivalent. See attached photos from satisfied customer.
